A Relevant Milestone: The Move Away from Gasoline-Only Cars
In March 2022, BYD ended production of vehicles powered solely by gasoline and continued developing battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Passenger Vehicles and BYD Group Brands

These are manufacturer-published figures from European material, not confirmed specifications for Australia or Africa. The difference may reflect configurations or document revisions. Do not combine the largest figures from both sources into a purchase specification.
Procurement action: ask the seller to identify the current document revision, quoted battery pack, passenger layout, charging hardware and range-test basis. Attach the accepted configuration to the contract. For mine transport, distinguish total passenger capacity from the required number of seats and confirm seat-belt requirements.
BYD Blade Battery, BEVs and Plug-in Hybrids Explained
A BEV runs on battery power; a PHEV combines a rechargeable battery with a combustion engine. BYD’s Blade Battery is a lithium iron phosphate battery technology. Buyers should verify the battery generation, capacity and charging specification of the exact vehicle being quoted.
BYD introduced second-generation Blade Battery and FLASH Charging technology in 2026. These developments do not make every existing vehicle compatible with the same charging power. - Range: request the stated test cycle and assess the proposed load, route, temperature and auxiliary equipment. Do not compare different test cycles as though they were equivalent.
- Charging: confirm the connector, AC and DC charging limits, electrical supply requirements and charger commissioning scope.
- Battery warranty: request the term, usage limits, capacity-retention threshold, exclusions and claim procedure for the destination country.
- PHEV operation: account for fuel, engine maintenance and charging access. Electric-only range is not the same as combined driving range.

Seven Checks Before Placing a BYD Fleet Order
Before committing to an order, verify the contracting entity, vehicle specification, destination requirements, charging plan, service arrangements, landed cost and TT payment conditions. Procurement managers, fleet managers and operations teams should agree these checks before comparing final quotations.
1. Confirm the Seller and Export Route
Obtain the seller’s legal name, registration details, contractual role and bank-account beneficiary. Establish whether the offer is from the manufacturer, an authorised distributor or an independent exporter. Verify any claimed authorisation through the relevant BYD business channel. A branded brochure or logo is not proof of authorisation.
2. Freeze the Technical Specification

Confirm commercial-use eligibility, technician training, diagnostic subscriptions, software support and parts availability. Ask who pays labour, travel, freight and vehicle recovery costs if a warranty repair is required.
6. Agree Inspection and Delivery Evidence
Define the inspection scope before ordering. Depending on the contract, the evidence may include vehicle identification, build specification, condition photographs, functional checks, accessory inventory and document review. Inspection does not replace destination approval, registration or a properly defined warranty.
7. Define TT Payment Milestones

Illustrative Quotation Check: What Is Actually Included?
One proposal includes the vehicle and charger, while another lists only the vehicle. Before comparing prices, request the same battery variant, charger specification, delivery basis and commissioning scope from both sellers. An apparently lower quotation may simply exclude equipment or services required to operate the fleet.
